Job Description
Job Summary 
Receptionist/Telephonist - responsible for greeting patients, managing appointments, handling telephone enquiries, and supporting clinical staff in a general practice setting.
Responsibilities- Welcome patients and provide assistance in person or by telephone.
- Open the surgery each morning, perform the end of day lock, and ensure lights, windows, doors, air conditioning, alarm, checklist, logbooks and ticket books are secured.
- Book appointments and manage all telephone encounters.
- Process urgent repeat prescription requests.
- Act as a chaperone during intimate examinations, wearing the chaperone badge at all times.
- Maintain working knowledge of EMIS/DART, Docman, EMIS Web and other medical records software.
- Cancel GP surgeries and prescriptions as instructed.
- Ensure patient confidentiality, Data Protection and Information Governance/GDPR compliance at all times.
- Cover the afternoon hatch and respond to prescription queries.
- Book interpreters via Big Word for patients requiring communication support.
- Assume reception overtime in line with the Receptionist contract.
- Ensure all unanswered messages and outstanding tasks are handed over to the next reception shift.
- Undertake photocopying, laminating and other reasonable duties as assigned by the Office or Reception Manager.
- Summarise and update patient records at the end of each shift.
- GCSE English and Maths.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Well presented, organised and reliable.
- Computer literate; experience with EMIS EMIS Web, Docman or similar systems.
- Experience working in a general practice.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Experience using EMIS Web or other medical records software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- 25 hour position over three days.
- Monday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (1 hour lunch).
- Tuesday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (1 hour lunch).
- Wednesday: 1:30 pm - 8:00 pm (30 minute break).
- Access to the NHS Pension Scheme.
