Receptionist

An exciting opportunity within our Reception team at Bishop Auckland Hospital. Working 37.5 hours per week, the role provides a high standard reception service within the outpatient departments.

Applicants must have 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) or NVQ Level 2 in Business & Administration or Customer Care, or equivalent experience. Relevant experience in a busy office environment is required. NHS experience and knowledge of Patient Administration Systems is advantageous but not essential.

The successful candidate will work primarily at Bishop Auckland Hospital but may be required to work at other sites within the Trust if necessary. The role may involve weekend and bank holiday work on a rota system to cover adhoc clinics.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reception of patients and visitors to the Outpatient Department; arranging appointments, managing patient data via the Patient Administration System, and ensuring patient satisfaction.
  • Liaise with GPs, hospital staff, and other professional bodies to maintain smooth department operations.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and email communications, booking appointments according to clinic rules and consultant directives.
  • Manage daily administrative tasks including sorting post, filing, stock monitoring, photocopying, and delivery checks.
  • Ensure accurate recording of clinic attendances and keep the PAS system up to date to facilitate 18 week RTT pathway tracking.
  • Collate and report weekly data on patient appointments and waiting times, support daily case activity entry, and manage day case waiting lists.
  • Provide support to colleagues during sickness and holidays, assist in mentorship and training of new staff, and maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
