Job overview We are excited to advertise a regional 2yr RCS Senior Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Urology between Bristol Children's Hospital, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Southampton Children's Hospital. In this post starting in April 2026, you will spend one year in Bristol and then one year in Birmingham. You will be trained across the full spectrum of sub-specialty paediatric urology.
ABOUT THE TEAM
All three centres offer a regional service, covering Wessex, the South West and the Midlands, and offering a full range of tertiary level paediatric urology care, including renal transplantation (in Bristol and Birmingham) and elective renal stone management (Southampton and Birmingham). The only service not offered is bladder exstrophy, but through good links with the centres performing these procedures we can facilitate experience of these cases for you. All three centres have a strong track record of research and publications with around 75 publications in the last 5 years. We work collaboratively on local national and international projects and will run regular regional research meetings three times a year between the centres.
Main duties of the job Your job plan for each centre will include at least 3 operative sessions per week, regular video-urodynamics, 1-2 clinics per week (including general paediatric urology and MDT clinics), teaching sessions weekly. Depending on the centre monthly specialised clinics include urotherapy (Bristol), transplant (Birmingham, Bristol), DSD (all centres), combined urorectal, nephro-urology, transition clinics (Bristol, Southampton). There are weekly nephro-urology X-ray MDTs (all centres) and fortnightly stones MDTs (Southampton).
You will also participate in the paediatric surgery and urology on call rota in each centre.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• You must have FRCS (Paed Surg) or FRCS (Urol) (or approved international equivalent) and be in or have completed your final year of training (ST8) by the time of employment
• Evidence of interest in paediatric urology above that of the average trainee in paediatric surgery
• Experience of audit, research and teaching
• Leadership and initiative
