Job Description

R&D Technician - Alcon

We are hiring an R&D & Moulding Technician on a 12 month fixed term contract in Cork. The role supports R&D Engineering activities in specification, procurement, installation, validation and implementation of new equipment, including molding & mold tooling for product and process development.

Responsibilities
  • Assist R&D Engineering in the specification, design and procurement of new equipment.
  • Support process development, characterization and optimisation activities.
  • Assist with all aspects of validation document generation and execution (risk assessments, validation assessments and commissioning).
  • Maintain R&D Engineering equipment and utilities including molding, curing, metrology, cleaning, chemical process and packaging systems.
  • Perform R&D Molding machine set up and tooling changes for operation, including preventive maintenance.
  • Assemble, build and install new equipment on site.
  • Identify and set up spare parts for existing or new equipment.
  • Liaise with suppliers and external contractors for quotations, method statements & risk assessments and coordinate onsite activities of contract personnel.
  • Provide first response technical support to all R&D Engineering process and utilities equipment.
  • Report daily updates to Supervisor/Project Engineer, highlighting concerns early.
  • Achieve assigned project milestones on time and within budget.
  • Support safety risk assessments for any new equipment or process.
  • Investigate and document process issues, report findings and solutions to Engineering.
  • Ensure continual Quality System compliance in line with Alcon QS requirements.
  • Work in compliance with H&S and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
  • Level 7 qualification in an Engineering or Technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a similar technical role in the medical device industry; 5+ years preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment, familiar with robotics, PLCs, vision systems.
  • Technical competence in operating and repairing highly automated equipment.
  • Good understanding of networks and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with Veeva, Maximo and Teamcenter.
  • Strong initiative, problem solving skills and ability to use problem solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of ISO, FDA, GMP standards.
