Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager - UPMC Aut Even, Kilkenny

Location: Aut Even Hospital

Job type: Fixed Term (20 month contract)

Overview of role

The Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager will lead the quality function within UPMC Aut Even Hospital and work closely with the wider UPMC Quality function and management team. The candidate will lead and support management with accreditation within the hospital and promote a culture of continuous improvement. This role contributes to hospital-wide and departmental quality initiatives, performs assessment and analysis of operations and processes, and works collaboratively with staff and managers to design and implement improvements and innovations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities General
  • Collaborate with the General Manager, Director of Nursing and Director of Quality & Patient Safety to develop the hospital quality improvement/quality assurance programme.
  • Identify and coordinate agreed quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and input into the design of the structure and framework to support the hospital quality improvement programme to achieve and maintain compliance with Accreditation standards and acquire additional quality certifications while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Apply a tracking method to monitor progress toward goals by collecting accurate, timely data to display quality, cost and service outcomes.
  • Effectively communicate improvements made to work teams, staff, managers and administrators throughout the organisation.
  • Accountable for the quality of the service provided, including customer service and technical aspects.
  • Support the Management team in implementing initiatives aimed at ongoing service development and improvement, fostering high morale among staff while ensuring effective communication.
  • Coordinate and support development and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum utilisation of resources and systematic audit of such usage.
  • Coordinate and support quality improvement projects within teams, applying quality improvement science and methodologies.
  • Manage day to day communications with the team(s) to ensure necessary support for effective delivery of improvement projects.
  • Ensure measurement and analysis of data is incorporated into all quality improvement projects.
  • Review incidents/near misses reported by staff and ensure appropriate follow up and action plans.
  • Support and input into the design of the structure and framework of the hospital quality improvement programme to achieve and maintain compliance with CHKS/JCI standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure patient care is central to all hospital activities.
  • Participate in service delivery as part of a professional, punctual and dedicated team.
  • Promote open communications and healthy working relationships.
  • Maintain principles of equity, accountability, quality and safety in daily work.

  • Evaluate information, make effective decisions and solve problems.
  • Manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise workload.
Professional / Educational
  • Contribute to service development through continuous education, research initiatives and staying current with literature, recent research and new developments in management, education and practice.
  • Provide support and advice to those engaging in continuous professional development in the area of responsibility.
  • Participate in the identification, development and delivery of induction, education, training and development programmes for nursing and non nursing staff.
  • Provide support, supervision and professional development to appropriate staff.
  • Engage in performance review processes including personal development planning and providing and receiving feedback.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Undergraduate degree with a focus on Quality.
  • At least 3 years' experience in a comparable role.
  • Hospital/clinical experience highly advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and planning skills.
  • High level of knowledge of healthcare quality developments.
  • In depth knowledge of applying standards to practice, quality improvement processes and quality and safety frameworks.
  • Experience in applying standardisation to practice/process.
  • Excellent IT skills - MS Office, Teams, Outlook.

Salary: €65,000.00 €70,000.00 per annum based on a 39 hour work week.
