Our Role

We're looking for a QA Engineer with a strong instinct for how products should behave and a natural curiosity for finding where they might break. You'll work closely with our Development, Product, and Design teams to help us deliver a smooth, high quality experience to our users.

You don't need to be highly technical on day one, but you do need a solid understanding of how to test effectively, how users think, and how features behave in real world scenarios. We value a thoughtful, user focused approach to testing far more than deep automation expertise. We do desire you to have the aptitude and the enthusiasm to learn automation and technical tooling, we'll support you as you grow those skills.

At Nexus Mods, the most important qualities you can bring are a problem solving mindset, curiosity, and a positive, collaborative attitude. In this role, we expect you to be self-driven, proactive, and comfortable performing the core responsibilities of a QA Engineer as part of a fast moving, agile team.

Responsibilities
  • Raise risks, identify gaps, and advocate for quality throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Own quality control throughout your team by helping to improve processes, aligning with product and streamlining testing.
  • Perform both functional and non-functional testing in planned and exploratory formats across both our website and desktop application.
  • Learn to build and maintain automated end-to-end tests as part of our CI/CD pipelines.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to developers and contribute to discussions around feature behaviour and edge cases.
  • Experience in designing, writing and executing test plans - including when formal requirements are limited and critical thinking is required to identify test scenarios.
  • Understanding of software development life cycles and the ability to contribute actively throughout sprint activities.
  • Some foundational knowledge or exposure to automated testing tools, plus a willingness to develop these skills.
  • A tester's mindset: curious, skeptical, and focused on real-world user impact.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate quality concerns clearly.
  • ISTQB Foundation Level certification.
Bonus Skills
  • Experience using GitLab for issue tracking.
  • Experience testing desktop applications.
  • Experience with test automation tools, ideally with Javascript/Typescript in Playwright.
  • An understanding of games modding and knowledge of Nexus Mods.
  • We work a 4-day week of 32 hours, with no reduction in pay.
  • An allowance of £25 each month to spend on video games.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Private BUPA healthcare for you and your family.
  • A very flexible training budget.
  • Regular social events throughout the year. Participation is optional!
