Job Description
Voel Coaches is well-established family-owned operator in North Wales offering executive and local coach travel to the community. We are seeking to appoint a well-skilled PSV Technician and/or Garage Foreman. We are flexible on hours and days to suit. Call for a conversation.
Duties will normally include;
Routine 6-weekly PDI inspections and annual MOT preparation on fleet vehicles.
Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on different makes of coaches (Scania, DAF, Dennis, Volvo and MAN).
Accurate fault diagnosing (mechanical and/or electrical) and rectification ensuring all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that the relevant health and safety policies are adhered to.
Work areas can include engines, gearboxes, running gear, electrical systems, and body repairs.
Attending local breakdowns in and out of hours.
Foreman responsibilities:
Detailed record keeping of planned and completed work, including parts used and ordered.
Daily review of driver defect sheets and ensuring correct remedial work is completed and logged.
Maintaining a high standard of organisation including cleanliness and tidiness around the workshop.
Planning the allocation of work tickets and liaising with a fleet supervisor in co-ordinating external services i.e MOT and Tacho inspection dates.
Training:
Role is not suitable for apprentices. However, the successful candidate would be eligible for continued professional development.
The successful candidate will have;
Served a recognised apprenticeship as a Bus Mechanic / PSV Technician / HGV Engineer and hold a formal qualification to NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
Completed a professional training programme such as the IRTEC pathways.
or
Qualified in light vehicle repair and maintenance (car/vans) NVQ level 2 or above, with an interest in furthering these skills onto PSV/HGV vehicles.
Essential:
Gained a minimum of 2-years experience in a similar work environment.
Possess a good knowledge of the DVSA rules and legislation relating to inspections and MOT preparation of PSV vehicles.
Can demonstrate that you can work consistently and safely to a high standard of Health & Safety
Have skills to be a flexible member of the team to adapt to the tasks necessary in the day-to-day operations of the depot.
Desirable:
Work experience through a PSV or HGV dealership.
Hold a full UK license with professional qualification (PSV or HGV plus valid CPC).
Electrical diagnostic skills for vehicle systems and management units.
Ability to pass a DBS background check to work if required by the company.
Other skills such as: welding and metal repairs, bodywork and painting, site maintenance.
