Projects Senior Associate / Associate Director / Legal Director - Energy - Bristol

Location: Bristol (hybrid working available)

Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: £85,000 to £125,000

A highly regarded commercial practice is looking to appoint an experienced senior energy lawyer to strengthen its Bristol based Energy Projects team. This is a senior strategic hire offering the chance to work at the forefront of the UK's energy transition, advising on complex commercial, regulatory and transactional matters across the power, renewables and storage sectors.

The Role

You will take a leading role within a well established team, advising on a broad range of energy market issues, including:

  • Commercial and regulatory advice across the UK energy sector
  • Grid connection and network arrangements at transmission and distribution level
  • Corporate PPAs, private wire structures and wider offtake arrangements
  • Route to market strategies, optimisation services and revenue stack modelling
  • Support on M&A and project finance transactions
  • Oversight of complex workstreams and direct client engagement
  • Supervising and developing junior lawyers and contributing to team growth
The Team

The Bristol Energy Projects team works closely with colleagues across the wider energy and infrastructure groups. The team is known for its depth of expertise in:

  • Renewables and storage
  • Energy transition technologies
  • Power and grid regulation
  • Emerging market design and policy developments

You will work directly with senior partners and play a key role in shaping the team's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver clear, commercially focused advice on regulatory frameworks and market design
  • Draft and negotiate grid, offtake and optimisation agreements
  • Lead negotiations and manage complex project workstreams
  • Support multi disciplinary teams on transactional mandates
  • Produce thought leadership and client training on emerging market issues
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management
  • Ensure effective supervision, mentoring and development of junior team members
Candidate Profile

You will bring:

  • Significant experience in energy regulation and commercial/transactional work
  • Strong understanding of grid, offtake and market design issues
  • Excellent drafting skills and the ability to simplify complex regulation
  • Confidence leading negotiations and engaging with technical and commercial stakeholders
  • A collaborative approach and proven experience supervising junior lawyers

Desirable:

  • Experience with emerging technologies such as hydrogen, CCUS, long duration storage, heat networks or interconnectors
