The role

If you are looking for a role where you can make a tangible difference to Worcestershire's highway network, this could be the opportunity for you.

We are seeking a Project Support Officer to join our Highway Operations team, helping us deliver a wide-ranging programme of maintenance and infrastructure projects across the county. From supporting resurfacing and drainage schemes through to assisting with contract delivery, you will play an important part in keeping Worcestershire moving.

Working alongside Engineers, Contract Managers and Project Managers, you will help coordinate projects, monitor progress and ensure that the right information is in place to support effective delivery. The role combines technical, financial and administrative responsibilities, giving you a broad insight into how highway projects are planned and delivered.

You will also contribute to the management of key contracts, support reporting and help keep projects on track in terms of time, cost and quality. Whether it is organising meetings, maintaining project records or supporting procurement activity, your work will help ensure that schemes are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

This is a varied and fast-paced role within a supportive team environment. Our service responds not only to planned work programmes but also to changing priorities, including severe weather and other operational challenges, so flexibility and a positive approach are important.

About you

You will be someone who enjoys being organised and taking ownership of your work, with the confidence to manage a range of tasks and priorities. You may already have experience in a project support or coordination role, or you may be looking to build on relevant experience within a large organisation.

Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be working with a wide range of colleagues, partners and stakeholders. You should be comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and able to present information clearly and accurately.

An understanding of project management principles will help you succeed in this role, along with the ability to monitor progress and support delivery against tight deadlines. You will need to be adaptable, resilient and willing to contribute to a collaborative team environment.

A degree or equivalent relevant experience is required, and a project management qualification or willingness to work towards one would be advantageous.

Additional information

The role will involve travel across Worcestershire, including locations not always easily accessible by public transport.
