Job Description

A specialist project management consultancy is looking for two Project Managers to join a growing team delivering major higher education projects in Southampton. The Project Managers can be based anywhere, provided they are comfortable travelling to Southampton two to three days per week. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager who wants to work as part of an established project team on complex, stakeholder-led university developments.

The Project Manager will join a team of seven professionals responsible for delivering higher education schemes from early project stages through to construction and completion. This Project Manager role would suit a capable Project Manager with strong client-facing skills who is comfortable coordinating consultants, contractors, end users, and senior stakeholders. Each successful Project Manager will play an important role in maintaining programme, risk, reporting, and project controls across a busy portfolio.

You must have prior construction consultancy experience to be considered for this role.

The Project Manager's role

The Project Manager will support and lead higher education projects across the Southampton estate, working closely with the wider project management team.

The Project Manager will be responsible for programme management, consultant coordination, procurement support, risk management, change control, project reporting, stakeholder engagement, and contractor liaison.

The Project Manager will chair meetings, track actions, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure project information is communicated clearly. Working within an active higher education environment will require strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple academic, operational, technical, and construction stakeholders.

The Project Manager

The successful Project Manager will have:

  • Prior project management experience within a construction consultancy
  • Higher education, education, public sector, or similarly stakeholder-heavy project experience
  • Experience delivering projects through pre-contract and construction stages
  • A degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, or a related discipline
  • MRICS, MAPM, MCIOB, or progress towards a relevant professional qualification
  • Good knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
  • Strong programme, risk, reporting, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication and client-facing abilities
  • The ability to attend projects in Southampton two to three days per week

In Return?

  • £45,000 - £55,000
  • Pension contribution
  • Professional membership support
  • Strong higher education project pipeline
  • Opportunity to work within an established team of six to seven
  • Client-facing project responsibility
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Clear career progression opportunities
