Job Description

Project Manager

London (Hybrid working)

As a Project Manager you will be accountable for the delivery of projects in line with WHSmith strategic goals, significant change programmes and ongoing initiatives. You will be responsible for managing project delivery, from initiation to closure, to agreed time, cost and quality standards.

The Role:

The position will be working on a broad range of projects from opening new stores and store relocations through to new supplier onboarding or adaptation to legislative changes. Flexibility, adaptability and a solutions mindset are core traits for our project managers.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Defining project objectives, scope and deliverables
  • Planning and managing resources required to deliver to the objectives and scope
  • Providing project updates to stakeholders, the project team and PMO on progress around the objectives, budget, scope and risks
  • Building, developing and growing business relationships vital to the success of the project
  • Developing and managing a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Proactively managing change to project scope via change control
  • Creating and maintaining RAID logs identifying risks / issues and risk management options
  • Managing 3rd party technology suppliers assigning tasks and communicating deliverables
The Team:

The International Delivery Team is a small, close-knit team made up of business analysts, project managers and solutions architects. The teams are dynamic and agile, working on fast-paced projects across our international locations. Whilst Europe and Ireland are the main location focuses due to our footprint; the work stretches further afield including new territories being explored.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be autonomous, structured and solutions focussed with an inquisitive and collaborative outlook. They will be comfortable navigating ambiguity and leaning in to support the wider team where needed.

Required experience:

  • A proven Project Management background with demonstrable technically proficiency
  • Project Management qualifications (for example, Prince 2, PMP etc)
  • Experience of working with both Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
  • Proven experience of managing a multi project portfolio
  • Ideally previous experience in International Retail and store opening
