The project:Join our project management consultancy that operates across five global hubs, overseeing work for leading organizations in the public and private sectors. We are seeking a Mechanical Handling & Moorings Assistant Package Manager for a large infrastructure project in Plymouth. Mace is engaged as the Delivery Partner to Babcock for upgrading facilities within HMNB Devonport, supporting maintenance for nuclear submarines, including dock upgrades for the Astute programme. Your role will involve planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the Mechanical Handling and Mooring works, ensuring project goals are met within schedule, budget, and safety standards. Effective communication with clients, contractors, and stakeholders is essential.

Support project delivery from inception through design, procurement, and construction.
Assist in managing design and procurement processes, overseeing packages and subcontractors.
Support construction teams to meet delivery schedules.
Monitor contractor reporting, chair progress meetings, and oversee design reviews.
Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, including factory acceptance testing.
Review scope changes, technical submittals, RFIs, and performance reports.
Manage package closeouts upon completion.
Understand project budgets, identify risks, and support business sustainability.
Uphold the company's values and support positive impacts for people and the environment.
Build collaborative relationships with design and consultancy teams.
Network and learn best practices across Mace's groups and resources.
Manage project parts independently with oversight from senior project managers.
Experience with engineering design processes.
Familiarity with procurement and NEC contracts.
Experience in marine or crane projects, ideally in regulated industries like nuclear, rail, or aviation.
Relevant engineering or marine qualifications (Degree, BTEC, HNC).
Certifications such as CSCS; nuclear and defense experience is a plus.
Understanding of crane standards and safety legislation (BS 7121, EN 13001, PUWER, LOLER, CDM 2015).
Membership in professional bodies (RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE) is desirable.
Strong communication, influencing, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of sustainability considerations in projects.
