Within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) UK Line of Business and as part of the Fast Jet Sector, the role of 'Project Engineering Lead - Fast Jet Support - Captor Technical Support' has become available.

In delivering the Project Engineering Lead role, you will be required to take ownership and implement, control and report on the day-to-day engineering delivery for the Back office services for all Typhoon Support contracts.

This covers interaction with the core nation customers (UK, Spain, Germany, Italy) and export nations (Currently Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait)

The key aspect is to provide leadership, technical support, guidance for all activities within the remit of technical support side of the back office which includes involvement with design modification support, production support, test equipment support, training across the Captor-M and ECRS Mark 0 in service products to ensure continued availability to end users. This technical support will include involvement in reviewing and authorising technical queries, defect investigations and other necessary support activities.

In addition to this, you will have a role in supporting the evolution of the in-service product portfolio and how that service is provided.

Key tasks of the role are to:

  • Take ownership and co-ordinate/manage the technical support work packages and periodically report on work package health.
  • Manage the technical support team to ensure the demands on the back office for projects are executed.
  • Lead the technical support activities for Typhoon Support which are Leonardo UK orientated.
  • Give guidance, interaction and direction to the other members of the fast jet support back office.
  • Communicate appropriately with the various Leonardo UK subject matter experts and design authorities within the RATS LoB.
  • Interact appropriately with the EuroRadar Work Share Partners for Captor-M/Radar 0.
  • Attend and support appropriate IPT meetings and IPT tasks to support a successful IPT.

Accountable for:

  • Delivery on commitments made to both internal and external Customers and Partners.
  • Developing and maintaining Customer and Partner relationships & satisfaction.
  • Mentoring and managing the performance and development of the technical support team members.
  • Managing the overall allocation of engineering tasks, ensuring the necessary resources are in place to execute these.
  • Providing engineering solutions and estimates to current and future bid/proposal activities.
  • Maintaining project compliance with the company policies and procedures, through appropriate reviews including life cycle management activities.

Key responsibilities / duties are:

  • Achieving Customer and Partner satisfaction through an understanding of their needs and drivers.
  • Delivering engineering performance on time that matches or exceeds budget.
  • Action work packages within the back-office Radar support engineering management teams to deliver the front office requirements.
  • Identification, management and reporting of project risk and mitigation activities
  • Reporting engineering performance both internally and externally, including
    • Summary of overall performance of contracts/services
    • Engineering Milestone status
    • Monthly SOFT Report
    • Key Technical Issues/Problems/Resolution
    • Risk and Opportunity
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team, from identification through to effective implementation of product, process and service improvements - with the focus on cost, performance and Customer/Partner satisfaction.
  • Involvement and support to future work through support to bids and other organisational change activities.

What you'll bring

    • Strong engineering background, with experience in working in industry defence / government contracts.

  • Desirable: -
    • Understanding or awareness of Typhoon in-service support programmes, or modern and innovative in-service support approaches.
    • Understanding of technical support of military aircraft in service at ML1/ML2 facilities.
    • Experience in working within internal and external colleagues on complex multi-stakeholder programmes.
    • Working knowledge of the Life-Cycle Management processes.
    • An understanding of the Typhoon Avionics systems.
    • Experience in delivering high value programmes/ projects.

  • Occasional UK, European, Middle East and potentially world-wide travel with overnight stays likely to be required.

  • Flexibility with regards working hours is essential as occasional evening and weekend working may be required to support business needs.
  • Must be PC literate and familiar with MS Office suite.
