- Department for Transport Careers Midlands Rail Hub: A £1.75bn phased rail programme to boost capacity, reliability, and connectivity across the Midlands, enabling more trains, seats, and improved services at 50 stations.
The first phase focuses on central Birmingham, the South West, and South Wales, with future expansion across key regional routes.
The role involves sponsoring programme delivery, leading stakeholder engagement and communications, and building partnerships to maximise regional growth and long-term benefits.
Enhancements Delivery North: Responsible for managing the design and delivery of government-funded rail enhancement projects across the North of England.
This includes developing business cases, overseeing project delivery with partners like Network Rail, and ensuring projects meet time and cost targets.
The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic problem-solving to improve network efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance passenger experience.
All four of these roles are potentially subject to transfer out of DfT as part of industry transition to Great British Railways.
No timescales have yet been confirmed, and employment terms and conditions would be protected in line with TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment regulations.
Your responsibilities in the role will include, but aren't limited to: Lead development and delivery of stakeholder engagement and communications plans, co-ordinating through the cross-programme working group.
Lead delivery of projects in line with the agreed requirements ensuring alignment with DfT's strategic priorities.
Responsible for working with Network Rail to plan, execute, and close projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and deliver the intended outcomes.
Responsible for project management and controls including management of project milestones, managing budgets, motivating teams, mitigating risks, and managing issues.
Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to effectively manage input to shape scheme development, identify and manage risks.
Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need.
