Job Introduction

The BBC has ambitious plans for the transformation of our vehicle fleet to make sure we continue to deliver content in the most sustainable way. We're looking for someone to manage a significant programme of activity which will define, ratify and support the delivery of our strategy. Our fleet comprises approximately 800 vehicles ranging from pool cars and vans to our largest broadcast trucks and trailers. Our fleet is spread across the UK and is critical in supporting our local, regional and national output.

Our BBC-wide fleet is managed through BBC MediaOperations. Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart. Working closely together with our editorial colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily. The team is also responsible for the management of production services, stores, some OB bases and all of the BBC Group's vehicles.

Interview Process

Interview - approx. one hour of technical and values-based questions (w/c 2nd July)

Main Responsibilities

The Programme Manager will be responsible for our strategic fleet programme, working in partnership with Media Operations leaders, Nations Operations leaders and wider BBC stakeholders, and suppliers such as the BBC's lease vehicle provider.

This role is pivotal in driving our fleet sustainability strategy and will be responsible for clarifying, ratifying and documenting the strategy. They will manage infrastructure procurement and planning, liaising with internal stakeholders such as BBC Workplace and our Sustainability Director and their teams for reporting and implementation. Additionally, they will plan and document capital requirements within available funding.

In terms of the broadcast fleet strategy, the manager will develop and clarify both editorial and technical requirements in line with over-arching corporate strategies.
Stakeholder management is a crucial part of this hands-on role. The Programme Manager will map stakeholders, manage stakeholder forums, and support the Operations Executive, Fleet in developing governance forums and policies.

The Programme Manager will identify change impacts and manage change planning, and identify new strands of work to be completed in order to deliver an effective fleet transformation.

Are you the right candidate

The ideal candidate will have extensive, proven experience in programme management and will likely have formal qualifications in this discipline.

You should possess strong, demonstrable stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively, as well as excellent strategic planning and implementation capabilities.

You do not need to be an expert in mobile broadcast technology, but exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to assimilate and summarise complex information is essential.
