PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £42,000 - £50,000 + London Weighting (£5,319), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As Production Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, self-funded and brand-funded digital content by overseeing the financial, operational, and compliance aspects of production. Working closely with editorial and commercial teams, you'll ensure accurate planning, budgeting, and scheduling in a fast-paced environment. You'll be leading a team of production staff and help to shape innovative, efficient production practices across a diverse and dynamic content slate.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Production Oversight & Delivery: lead the scheduling, budgeting, and delivery of branded and commercially funded productions, ensuring efficiency and value for money.
- Compliance & Risk Management: ensure all production activities adhere to BBC policies, legal standards, and regulatory requirements to minimise risk.
- Resource & Partner Coordination: source and manage production resources, including crew, indie partners, and locations, ensuring timely and effective setup.
- Financial Performance & Planning: monitor financial and operational performance, support forecasting, and assess the viability of content ideas throughout production.
- Team Development & Innovation: promote innovation, sustainability, and team development while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and forward-thinking working environment.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Proven Digital Production Experience: significant experience delivering digital-first content across genres, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Technical & Multi-Platform Knowledge: strong understanding of end-to-end multi-platform production processes and technologies, with the ability to advise on systems and implement new tools.
- Project & Editorial Insight: skilled in project management and interpreting editorial briefs, with knowledge of commissioning processes and the ability to align resources with creative goals.
- Financial & Commercial Acumen: demonstrated ability to manage large budgets, forecast costs, and negotiate contracts in line with BBC policies and commercial objectives.
- Leadership & Team Development: experienced in leading and motivating production teams, identifying training needs, and supporting staff development across varied outputs.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Industry Awareness: up-to-date knowledge of the BBC and the wider digital content landscape, with insight into supplier markets and industry trends.
- Health & Safety Knowledge: experience in monitoring and managing health and safety protocols within production environments.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively within diverse teams, supported by excellent communication skills.
- Organisational Agility: proven ability to stay organised and responsive in fast-paced settings, managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Efficiency & Innovation: proactive mindset with a track record of identifying new ways of working more efficiently and embracing change.
