Product Engineer - Marketing

Performance & Marketing Automation

Location: Flexible (Remote/Hybrid/On-site in Eindhoven), based on demonstrated autonomy

About Withlocals

Withlocals is a certified B-Corp on a mission to connect travelers with authentic, local experiences across the globe. We believe in sustainable, community-driven travel and are looking for a key individual to drive our growth engine. Join a talented, hands-on team where your work has immediate, measurable impact on both our business goals and our community of hosts.

The role: impact and ownership

We are looking for a Product Engineer - Marketing to serve as a high-impact, individual contributor who will own and optimize our most critical revenue-generating systems. This is a purely hands-on, non-management role for an engineer who excels at transforming complex data into robust, automated marketing solutions. You are the link between our performance marketing goals and our technical infrastructure. If you thrive on deep dives into data, coding scalable solutions, and seeing immediate financial results from your work, this role is for you.

What you will do

Your primary mission is to maximize ROAS and overall revenue by improving the efficiency and sophistication of our MarTech stack, with a primary focus on Google Ads.

  • Engineering automation: Design, build, and maintain automated systems that dynamically link our internal product data (availability, cancellations, margin) with external marketing platforms, primarily the Google Ads API.
  • Data-to-Action pipeline: Own the pipeline from raw data sources (Internal Withlocals DB, BigQuery) to actionable insights (Looker Studio) that inform tactical campaign adjustments.
  • Initial key project: Immediately take ownership of developing and implementing our new push marketing strategy for the Withlocals mobile application (Android and iOS).
  • Insight generation: Proactively answer complex optimization questions from team members (e.g., "Does this specific host participate in this experience?") by querying data sources and visualizing the result in a clear, usable format.
  • Performance optimization: Continually audit and refine our existing automated bidding, budgeting, and creative rotation solutions to push the boundaries of performance efficiency.

What you bring

We are not strictly counting years of experience; we are looking for a proven track record of success in building robust, data-driven systems.

Technical skills

  • Core programming: You are a language-agnostic engineer with a good understanding of computer science principles. You can quickly become proficient in our stack, which includes TypeScript, GoLang, Scala and SQL.
  • Data infrastructure: Experience with extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) large datasets from internal databases and cloud data warehouses like BigQuery.
  • API integration: Conceptual understanding of how to work with external APIs, specifically the concepts of automating performance marketing campaigns via the Google Ads API.
  • Cloud environment: Experience or familiarity with cloud-native environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Mindset and soft skills

  • Grit and adaptability: You learn new tools and languages rapidly. When faced with complexity, you take full ownership and develop stable, reliable solutions.
  • Independence: You thrive as an autonomous, self-starter. You know how to scope projects, manage dependencies, and deliver high-quality code without constant oversight.
  • Analytical clarity: Exceptional ability to transform ambiguous data challenges into clear, actionable insights that drive business decisions.
  • Collaboration: While autonomous, you are adept at translating complex technical challenges and solutions to non-technical stakeholders (e.g. marketing, product).

Our offer and benefits

  • High impact: You will own mission-critical systems and see the results of your code directly impacting company revenue on a daily basis.
  • Work with purpose: Join a B-Corp that is committed to making a positive impact on the travel industry.
  • Competitive salary and perks: Competitive remuneration plus 8% holiday allowance. We focus on continuous growth and a fun, supportive team environment.
  • Flexible work policy: Fully remote is possible for candidates with a demonstrable track record of successfully managing senior roles autonomously. Otherwise, a preference for hybrid work in our office.
