Probation Services Officer - Court, Bail and Enforcement (Teesside and Newton Aycliffe locations)

The Probation Service is looking for empathetic, patient, and organised people to join us as Probation Services Officers (PSOs). This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of offenders, gain valuable skills and build a rewarding career within probation.

Overview

The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence. This includes assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. You will provide case management support to a full range of people on probation, utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence, assessing and managing risks.
• Provide information to courts and work closely with agencies throughout the justice system.
• Support offenders with practical advice about housing, employment and other day to day issues.
• Produce clear and accurate written reports to tight deadlines.
• Attend court and court related meetings as required.
• Collaborate with co workers and external agencies to deliver positive outcomes for offenders and the public.

Qualifications

• No degree is required; a range of experiences, particularly with people experiencing social or personal difficulties, are considered.
• Empathy, patience and resilience are essential personal qualities.
• Good written communication skills - the ability to produce clear, concise reports within deadlines.
• Interest in and willingness to develop the necessary probation specific knowledge and skills through on the job training.

• £28,064 starting salary, with annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF).
