A leading and growing engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join its successful team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced temporary works professional to take on a senior technical role within a dynamic business delivering innovative and bespoke engineering solutions across a wide range of construction sectors.
As a Principal Temporary Works Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of temporary works projects, working closely with clients, contractors and other members of the design team. You will be responsible for developing practical and innovative engineering solutions, ensuring designs are technically robust, safe and compliant with relevant industry standards.
The role will involve working across a diverse range of projects, providing technical expertise from initial concept through to detailed design and implementation. You will produce and review calculations, designs and technical drawings, attend site visits and surveys, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful Principal Temporary Works Engineer will have strong experience in a design-focused role within the UK construction industry, with a detailed understanding of temporary works and BS5975. You will ideally hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and be Chartered, or working towards Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE.
You will also have excellent technical and communication skills, strong AutoCAD experience and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, sections and general arrangements. Experience of supervising, mentoring or supporting junior engineers would be highly beneficial, as would knowledge of 3D drafting and modelling and experience within permanent works design.

Key Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Strong experience within temporary works design
- Detailed knowledge of BS5975 and UK construction practices
- Strong 2D AutoCAD skills
- Ability to produce and review technical calculations and drawings
- Excellent understanding of engineering plans, sections and general arrangements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent numerical and analytical abilities
- Good IT skills
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers would be advantageous
- 3D drafting/modelling experience would be beneficial
- Permanent works Civil or Structural Engineering experience would be advantageous
- Chartered status or a clear pathway towards ICE or IStructE membership
