We are seeking a number of highly organised and motivated Principal / Senior Safety Engineers. The Safety Engineer will work within the System team performing safety activities in support of the Systems in development, manufacture and in-service.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply established safety analysis techniques includingFault Tree Analysis (FTA),Failure Modes, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA),Hazard Identification (HAZID), andFunctional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
  • Develop and maintainsafety casesand safety arguments in compliance with relevant military and defence standards (e.g.Def Stan 00-056,MIL-STD-882E,IEC 61508).
  • Support system architects and design teams by providing expert safety input during the development of complex architectures and software-intensive systems.
  • Produce and review safety assessments, hazard logs, risk evaluations, and safety requirements for integration into the wider system lifecycle.
  • Lead or contribute to the generation of artefacts in support of formal design reviews and certification milestones.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including independent safety assessors and customers, to ensure alignment and compliance with safety objectives.
  • Provide independent safety assurance and contribute to internal safety governance reviews across engineering projects.
Qualifications

Ideally candidates will have a degree in a STEM subject or equivalent suitable experience

Essential skills

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong background inproduct/system safety engineering, ideally within adesign and development organisationin the defence sector.
  • Proven experience withDefence Standardssuch as00-056,00-055,00-051, or equivalent standards such asMIL-STD-882E.
  • Practical experience applying safety analysis techniques: FMECA, FTA, HAZID, FHA, etc.
  • Knowledge ofsafety management systems, such as POSMS and POEMS, and their application within a UK MoD or international defence environment.
  • Experience in producing and deliveringsafety cases, safety plans, and safety compliance matrices.
  • Familiarity with safety engineering forsoftware-intensive systems, including the application of standards likeDef Stan 00-055,DO-178C, orIEC 61508.

Experience

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in one or more of the following domains:Land,Naval, orAirsystems.
  • Understanding of functional safety principles and standards.
  • Experience providingindependent safety assuranceor participating in external regulatory reviews.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration (e.g. CEng, IEng).
