We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Principal Project Manager to join our Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure team. The role is based at our Manchester depot, working on a hybrid basis. The candidate must be willing to travel across the UK - a Company Car will be provided.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Project Manager to lead on the strategic planning, development, and delivery of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects. This role is pivotal in driving the transition to sustainable transportation by ensuring the successful deployment of EV charging networks across the UK.

The role focuses on leading transformative, high-impact projects that advance our organisation's vision for sustainable transport. The successful candidate will be accountable for shaping and executing strategic programmes, influencing key decision-makers, and driving innovation in the deployment, operation, and maintenance of EV charging stations across varied contexts. With a strong emphasis on long-term planning and strategic alignment, the Principal Project Manager will coordinate cross-functional teams and partner organisations to deliver strategic outcomes that position our organisation at the forefront of the EV charging sector.

The standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week and this position offers a competitive salary.

What you'll do
  • Project Leadership: Lead multifaceted, strategically significant projects.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement project strategies aligned with our clients' organisational sustainability goals and national EV targets.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, local authorities, utility providers, contractors, and technology partners.
  • Budget & Timeline Management: Oversee strategic project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Risk Management: Identify risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure project continuity and compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure regulatory compliance across the EVCI business.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Provide regular updates to senior leadership, including KPIs, progress reports, and impact assessments.
  • Innovation & Optimisation: Evaluate emerging technologies and delivery models to enhance infrastructure performance and scalability.

What You'll Bring
  • Proven experience in infrastructure project management, ideally within EV, renewable energy, utilities or transportation sectors.
  • Strong understanding of EV charging technologies, grid integration, and permitting processes.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in recognised project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
  • Engineering, environmental science, or business degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with public-private partnerships or government-funded programmes.
  • Familiarity with smart mobility, energy management systems, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
