Are you an experienced Highways & Drainage Engineer ready to step into a senior leadership role? We are working with a large, well-established multidisciplinary consultancy seeking a Principal Highways & Drainage Engineer to join their growing Huddersfield office.
This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in delivering high-quality infrastructure design across a diverse portfolio of development and infrastructure projects, while mentoring engineers and shaping project delivery.
ResponsibilitiesThe Role of Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage schemes for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. You'll collaborate with internal disciplines and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure projects from concept through to construction.
- Oversee the preparation of highways designs (S38 / S278) and drainage strategies (SuDS, S104).
- Manage project teams, providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Liaise with local authorities, clients, and other stakeholders to secure approvals and deliver successful outcomes.
- Review and approve technical designs, reports, and drawings.
- Support project management activities including programme, budget, and resource planning.
- Contribute to business development, client relationships, and project bids.
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or similar).
- Significant experience in highways and drainage design for development infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards, S38, S278, S104, and SuDS.
- Experience using industry software such as Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, or similar.
