Job Description
Role Summary

The Ireland Roads team is seeking a Principal Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience in the design and project management of road schemes and active travel schemes to work in our Limerick (N/M20 Project office). The role involves leading a team in concept, preliminary and detailed designs for major national road schemes including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project, public transport schemes, and active travel schemes, and managing the entire project lifecycle from inception to handover.

Responsibilities
  • Managing projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi disciplinary input on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
  • Liaising with clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing expectations and providing comprehensive advice.
  • Serving as project technical lead and reviewer.
  • Using technical ability and experience to develop staff.
  • Preparing fee proposals and managing budgets for individual projects.
  • Responsible for development and delivery of discrete and overall project solutions.
  • Leading and managing other staff in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting tender package preparation.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation and in house quality assurance standards and processes.
Qualifications
  • Project management and technical delivery lead experience on road or public transport/active travel schemes, with knowledge of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, National Transport Authority or local authority procedures.
  • Experience with contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.
  • A chartered member of a relevant engineering technical institution.
  • Experience or knowledge of alignment and drainage design software such as Civil3D/Open Roads and WinDes (preferred).
  • Good communication, client management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Project.
  • Thorough understanding and application of current design standards (e.g., DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual, Transport Infrastructure Ireland publications, TII and NTA Project Management Guidelines).
  • Strong stakeholder management experience.
