Job Description

Job Title: Principal Development Management Officer

Location: London

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Development Management Officer to join a fast paced and high performing Development Management team, recognised for delivering best in class planning services. You will play a key role in shaping major regeneration and development projects across the borough.

THE ROLE

As a Principal Development Management Officer, you will lead on a wide range of Development Management projects, including complex major applications and strategically significant schemes.

You will be responsible for managing projects from pre application through to determination and appeals, while working closely with senior stakeholders, elected members, and multidisciplinary teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leading on complex major planning applications and strategic developments
  • Managing pre application, application, and appeal work
  • Preparing and presenting reports to Planning Committees, Cabinet, and Members
  • Undertaking high quality planning assessments in line with policy and legislation
  • Managing a complex workload across multiple projects
  • Liaising with internal teams, stakeholders, and external bodies
  • Supporting and mentoring junior staff and contributing to team leadership
  • Providing technical advice to the public and stakeholders
  • Contributing to spatial planning and policy development where required
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
  • MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and Development Management
  • Experience managing complex and large scale planning applications
  • Ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior staff
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem solving abilities
  • A proactive, solutions focused, and customer oriented approach
