Job Title: Principal Combat Systems Engineer

Location: Portsmouth - Hybrid - 2-3 days in office per week

Role Type: Permanent

Our client, an established multinational engineering firm, requires an experienced Principal Combat Systems Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team.

This unique and specialist team provides expertise to physically integrate the Combat Systems sub-system equipment within a complex engineering-to-order warship design programme.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer and business needs are met, proactively solving problems as they arise.
  • Liaise with other Combat System technical design leads and the Technical Authority (TA) to ensure coherence across the Combat System and integration of whole ship and sub-system requirements.
  • Act as the SME in Combat Systems, being customer-facing and demonstrating domain expertise.
  • Support design changes and improvements from existing platform baselines to maintain design integrity.
  • Lead the definition of Combat System design rules and manage deviations for the CS Team.
  • Support physical integration activities within a systems engineering framework.
  • Assist platform and detail design teams in defining requirements for Combat System equipment in non-Combat System compartments.
Candidate Requirements:
  • A relevant engineering or scientific degree, with proven experience/competency in Combat Systems.
  • Membership of a professional organisation and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience managing a technical team, providing coaching and mentoring within the Combat Systems domain.
  • Experience as a Combat Systems SME within complex programmes.
  • Understanding of the System Engineering design Lifecycle in an Engineering to Order (ETO) environment.
  • Ability to solve integration challenges in a fast-paced environment using SME knowledge.
