Job Description

Hitachi Energy is hiring a Primary Engineer (CDAE) to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about applications engineering, with an eye for detail and the ability to prepare documentation and diagrams. The primary responsibility includes providing technical expertise in the design and installation of substation layouts for projects ranging from 400kV to 11kV.

Requirements:

  • Must be CDAE authorized.
  • This position is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days of work at our Birmingham office.
  • We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver substation layouts and detailed diagrams according to UK standards, collaborating with local and other business units' CAD resources.
  2. Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
  3. Prepare conductor force calculations.
  4. Review and approve project documentation per established standards.
  5. Ensure work packages are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, providing comments on delegated works as needed.
  6. Develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
  7. Estimate engineering time and support monthly forecasts.
  8. Participate in design and hazard review meetings.
  9. Provide technical support onsite when required.
Candidate Profile:
  • HNC/HND in a related engineering field.
  • Proven knowledge of transmission or distribution practices (400kV to 11kV).
  • Strong teamwork, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and high-pressure environments.
  • Proficient in Windows, MS Office, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in the electricity supply industry.
  • Knowledge of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid standards and drawing practices.
