We are excited to advertise this post within the Manchester Diabetes Centre. This role is suitable for applicants with experience in physical health settings; however, a preceptorship (starting at Band 7) will be considered for less experienced candidates who have undertaken relevant clinical roles during training.
You will join a multidisciplinary team supporting patients with diabetes, led by Consultant Diabetologists. The team adopts a stepped-care approach to psychological distress and may include training and supervising non-psychology staff in emotional distress screening related to diabetes.
The role involves direct clinical work, MDT collaboration, and potential development of joint clinics.
Main duties of the job- Build and maintain collaborative relationships, using formulation skills to inform patient care and MDT approach.
- Work flexibly with physical complexity, aligning therapeutic approaches with other disciplines as needed.
- Provide direct and indirect clinical interventions addressing patient difficulties.
- Communicate effectively with other services to support patient pathways, considering physical comorbidities.
- Engage in service evaluation, audit, and research activities.
- Participate in in-house teaching and educational sessions.

Working hours: Saturday (midnight to midnight), weekdays after 8pm, before 6am, and all hours on Sundays and public holidays.

Qualifications and experience- Doctoral qualification in Clinical, Counselling, or Health Psychology, accredited by BPS.
- Registration with HCPC as a clinical/counselling/health psychologist.
- Additional specialized training (e.g., staff training, research methodology).
- Experience working with client groups in physical health settings, including high clinical severity, and delivering evidence-based psychological interventions.
- Experience in multidisciplinary teams, supervision, and working within medical/surgical environments.
- Research design and methodology at doctoral level, including multivariate data analysis.
- Knowledge of psychological therapies and relevant legislation.
- Complex psychological assessment and intervention skills.
- Effective time management and communication skills.
- Ability to liaise within multidisciplinary teams and provide consultation.
- Teaching and training abilities.
- Experience working in multicultural contexts.
