East London GP Surgery

Monday, Thursday & Friday (with potential Saturday 9am-1pm)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Permanent

Saraly: £38000-£46000 dependent on experience

About the Practice

This is a friendly, family-atmosphere GP practice in East London. The practice has 11 clinical rooms and a supportive multidisciplinary team including:

  • 2 GP Partners
  • 2 Salaried GPs
  • 2 Physician Associates
  • 1 Physiotherapist

The Role

They are seeking an experienced and organised Practice Nurse (Band 6) to join their clinical team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across treatment room duties, chronic disease management, health promotion, and specialist clinics.

The post holder will work autonomously while contributing to the wider primary care team, ensuring care is delivered in line with NMC standards, practice policies, and clinical protocols.

The nurse will have their own fully equipped clinical room, including:

  • Examination couch
  • Dedicated vaccine fridge
  • Responsibility for vaccine management and ordering

Key Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

  • Deliver nursing care as delegated by GPs within the practice (with occasional home visits if required).
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in line with clinical guidelines.

Screening & Health Promotion

  • Run and maintain screening and health promotion clinics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and patient outcomes.

Chronic Disease Management

  • Manage patients with long-term conditions using recall systems and clinical pathways.
  • Use clinical IT systems to record, monitor and recall patients.

Specialist & Long-Term Condition Clinics

You may support or lead clinics including:

  • Asthma / COPD
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Cervical screening
  • Family planning
  • INR monitoring

General Clinical Duties

Treatment Room

  • Warfarin monitoring (new starts)
  • Wound care, dressings, suture/clip removal
  • Blood tests and venepuncture
  • ECGs

Health Checks & Screening

  • Blood pressure, BMI, urinalysis, smoking status
  • Cervical cytology (if trained)

Vaccinations & Infection Control

  • Manage vaccine stock and ordering
  • Maintain cold chain and vaccine storage
  • Follow infection control and clinical waste procedures

Emergency Care

  • Maintain competence in anaphylaxis management and basic life support
  • Attend mandatory training updates

Women's Health

  • Support cervical screening and mammography pathways
  • Provide breast awareness advice and resources

Clinical Leadership & Teamworking

  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support and mentor colleagues where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Primary Care Team and external services

Administrative & IT Duties

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records
  • Support data collection, audits and health campaigns
  • Use clinical IT systems effectively
  • Assist with clinical correspondence and specimen management

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC)
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration experience
  • Experience working in General Practice
  • Strong organisational and IT skills
  • Experience with chronic disease management
  • Basic or Advanced Life Support training
  • Understanding of NHS priorities and primary care services
