Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the 'ALgas' project at the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, and The Ryan Institute, at the University of Galway, Ireland.

This position is funded by Research Ireland and Gas Networks Ireland, and is available from 1 October 2026 to contract end date of 30 June 2027.

The successful candidate will work in the Collins Laboratory on 'ALgas', which is an innovation challenge project focused on new technical workflows, and social licencing, to valorise macroalgae (seaweed) for biomethane generation. The ALgas team includes microbiology, economics, environmental engineering, plant science, phycology, and chemistry expertise.

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €47,273 - €60,250 per annum, (subject to the project's funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.

The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the scale (subject to the project's funding limitations), where evidence of prior years' equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
