We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Neurodegeneration to join the Alzheimer's Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI) at the Centre for Medicines Discovery.
ODDI is one of three research institutes funded by Alzheimer's Research UK and charged with uncovering novel therapeutic approaches for dementia.
The research at the ODDI is focused on molecular mechanisms underpinning innate immunity and organelle homeostasis, which have been revealed by human genetics studies to be hot spots that harbour many risk alleles for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Our mission is to de risk novel therapeutic approaches so that they are fit for further discovery investment. Consequently, we work closely with pharma and biotech companies and operate industry style project teams to deliver our target validation and translational goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Culture and preparation of cell lines and human iPSC derived cultures.
- Run cellular assays to validate targets and determine target engagement.
- Adhere to deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Develop proficiency in several platforms and provide technical advice to students and colleagues within ODDI or collaborating academic groups.
Qualifications required:
- Relevant PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Cell and Molecular Biology or Immunology.
- Excellent practical expertise in cell culture and in vitro assays, with prior laboratory experience in molecular biology.
- Ability to manage own research with an eye for detail and take responsibility for administrative activities such as management of lab reagent stock and lab book writing.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 30 April 2031 and is funded by Alzheimer's Research UK.
Salary (£): Research Grade 7: £39,424 - £41,636. This includes a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
