Job Description
Overview

Job title - Port Health Administrator

Location - Our client, Kent TN25 - Office based

Contract - Temporary - 6 Months (with a view to extension)

Hours - Average 37 hours per week on a 6-week rolling shift pattern (24/7 rota including nights)

Start Date - ASAP

The Role Summary

The position is primarily office-based, carrying out administrative duties relating to imported goods entering the UK. Full training will be provided on all systems and procedures. You will also provide support to Environmental Health Officers and Official Veterinarians during inspections within the inspection sheds.

  • Complete documentary checks using IPAFFS and other internal systems
  • Use AI-assisted systems to process and verify documentation
  • Carry out CHED and IUU document checks
  • Respond to enquiries from import agents and hauliers via phone and email
  • Escalate issues and complaints where appropriate
  • Assist Officers and Veterinarians during inspections
  • Carry out identity and seal checks on consignments
  • Record inspection information using tablets and internal systems (PHILIS)
  • Support sampling activities and detention procedures
  • Coordinate vehicle movements across the Border Control Post
  • Liaise with multiple agencies to ensure efficient processing of consignments
  • Maintain accurate records and stay up to date with legislative changes and disease outbreaks
Requirements
  • Previous administrative experience within a busy environment
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work accurately under pressure
  • A flexible approach to shift work, including nights and weekends
  • A commitment to high standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene
  • Previous experience within food safety, import/export, logistics, regulatory services or environmental health would be advantageous but is not essential
  • A driving licence is beneficial due to the site's location but is not essential
