The Newcastle Podiatry Department is inviting applications for a Band 5 Podiatrist to join us on a fixed term contract until 28 March 2027. This is a part time opportunity for 22.5 hours which will provide a strong foundation for a career in NHS podiatry.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Podiatrist to work within the community Podiatry team where you will be required to provide a range of high-quality podiatric interventions in a variety of clinical and domiciliary settings.
You must possess a degree in Podiatry, have your POM-A, and be registered with the Health Care Professions Council. The position requires applicants to be able to work flexibly across the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and you must have a driving licence and access to transport for work purposes.

Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a self-motivated, responsible and caring individual, who must be well organized and demonstrate a professional attitude.
The successful applicant will work across several community podiatry clinics and be expected to do some home visits and provide some treatments in care home settings. The role is facilitated by a team of experienced podiatrists and podiatry support staff, where you will be supported to improve your professional knowledge, skills and competencies.
The caseload is variable, with a high risk cohort; including a lot of patients with Diabetes and other underlying health conditions. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced senior clinicians in order to fully utilize your undergraduate skills
The post holder will be expected to follow trust and departmental policies and procedures to support effective healthcare delivery and work within the clinical governance framework.
Good communication is key to this role, which will require liaising with carers and other health care professionals to optimize the care of your patient. You will follow trust and departmental guidelines in order to provide safe and effective care to a cohort of patients.

Job responsibilities- To work as part of a highly motivated team in a variety of locations, supported with supervision and mentorship until competencies are completed; with a view to autonomous working including assessment and treatment of a range of Podiatry patients.
- To provide an efficient, effective, and consistent high quality Podiatry service for Newcastle Hospitals Community Health.
- To ensure that the service delivery is patient centred and reflects current and future developments within Podiatry and associated areas.
- Experience of dealing with a varied caseload of patients
- Critical / reflective practice
- Ability to use Microsoft word, excel and PowerPoint to support the role
- Evidence of relevant self-directed learning
- Podiatry Diploma / Degree
- State Registration to Health and Care Professions Council
- Registered with the HCPC as POM-A prescriptions only medicines -administration
- Must hold a current clean UK driving licence
- Registered with HCPC as POM-S - supply of medicines
- Experience of dealing with a varied caseload of patients
- Critical / reflective practice
- Ability to use Microsoft word, excel and PowerPoint to support the role
- Evidence of relevant self-directed learning
- Can use a range of podiatric clinical skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical skills
- Ability to manage non-compliance / conflict
- High level of manual dexterity is required for scalpel use and sharp debridement during treatments
- Accepts responsibility for own health and wellbeing to perform the scope of the role
