Job Description

Our client is a longstanding manufacturing business based in Hull and they are seeking an experienced Plant Operative to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is working on site within their manufacturing areas.

Duties:
  • Operate rotary kilns, coolers, screens, blenders and associated finishing plant equipment in accordance with approved operating procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Prepare and feed raw materials into the production process to meet production schedules and product specifications.
  • Monitor plant performance, process conditions and equipment operation, taking appropriate action or reporting abnormalities to the Production Supervisor.
  • Operate blending equipment in accordance with approved batch cards, ensuring product quality and batch integrity are maintained throughout the process.
  • Complete routine inspections of plant and equipment, identifying defects, wear or abnormal operating conditions.
  • Accurately record production data, process parameters, meter readings and batch information.
  • Prepare products for packaging, ensuring all labels, batch information and customer requirements are correct.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain clean, organised and free from hazards.
  • Inspect, monitor and record the performance of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems and dust extraction equipment, ensuring collected material is safely handled and disposed of.
  • Work in compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures, taking responsibility for personal safety and that of colleagues.
  • Promptly report safety concerns, equipment failures, quality issues and production deviations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency and housekeeping.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Production, Maintenance, Quality and Logistics to ensure efficient site operations.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as requested by management.

Working hours: The role is 12hrs working a 4 on and 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) this is over a 7 days rota (inc weekends)

Experience:
  • Previous experience working within a manufacturing, processing or industrial environment.
  • Good understanding of safe working practices within an industrial setting.
  • Ability to follow written operating procedures and production instructions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a shift team.
  • Ability to accurately complete production records and documentation.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
  • Ability to identify plant abnormalities and report issues promptly.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to housekeeping and continuous improvement.
  • Physically capable of working within an industrial production environment.
  • Previous experience operating rotary kilns.
  • Experience operating blending or mixing equipment.
  • Knowledge of bulk materials handling systems, conveyors and elevator systems
  • Experience using forklifts or other mobile plant.
  • Understanding of LEV systems and dust control equipment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and fault-finding skills.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • FLT License (Counterbalance).
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) License.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Manual Handling.
  • IOSH working safely (or equivalent)
