ICFO is a leading research center in the field of photonics, dedicated to advancing the science and technology of light and its applications. POSITION OVERVIEW


As part of the Strategic Initiative, ICFO coordinates PIXEurope, a flagship Pilot Line funded under the European Chips JU program. With €400 million in investments and a consortium of 20 partners across 11 countries, the project aims to reinforce Europe's strategic autonomy in photonic technologies and accelerate industrial uptake of cutting-edge integrated photonics. Over the next decade, PIXEurope will enable the transfer of advanced technologies to manufacturing environments, while fostering innovation and scalability across the European photonics ecosystem.


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communication Officer to lead and execute the communication strategy for the PIXEurope initiative. The successful candidate will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure coherent, impactful, and strategic dissemination of the project's objectives, progress, and results.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility European initiative with long-term impact on the technological landscape and industrial innovation.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


The Communication Officer will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing a comprehensive communication and dissemination strategy tailored to PIXEurope's goals and audience.
  • Acting as the central liaison for all communication-related matters between ICFO, the project consortium, and the Chips JU.
  • Coordinating with communication teams across the consortium and Chips JU, and aligning efforts with related pilot-line initiatives.
  • Creating and managing content for various formats and audiences, including: scientific and technological updates, general public outreach, project website and social media and press releases and media kits.
  • Supervising the production of promotional materials and branding assets.
  • Presenting project progress and outcomes to stakeholders, policymakers, and the public.
  • Managing media relations and maintaining a network of relevant press contacts.
  • Monitoring communication impact using analytics tools and reporting outcomes.
  • Supporting consortium partners with communication needs, including event promotion, conference visibility, and internal dissemination efforts.
  • Maintaining and regularly updating the project website with dynamic content.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


  • Degree in science, or engineering (physics, chemistry, or engineering background highly valued).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in science communication, journalism, or related fields.
  • Proven experience with large-scale European or international projects, ideally within scientific or technological domains.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and multimedia editing software.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, adaptable to a range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently.
  • High level of initiative, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural, international environment.
  • Native or fluent English; proficiency in Spanish, Catalan, or other European languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project meetings and events.

This position will be dedicated full time to the European Chips JU Pilot Line project PIXEurope directed by Prof. Dr. Valerio Pruneri within the Communication ICFO's operational team.
