Alder Hey is offering an exciting opportunity to join the Orthopaedic Neuromuscular team & Northwest Movement Analysis Centre (NWMAC). This department comprises a multidisciplinary team that provides a regional specialist service for children with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular conditions. The Gait Lab at Alder Hey serves as the central hub for the cerebral palsy service, offering recommendations for non-operative interventions, multi-level surgical interventions, including pre-operative planning, and pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation protocols. This specialist service is looking to appoint a physiotherapy practitioner for 27 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive, high quality, expert physiotherapy service for the North West region, within the clinical speciality of Orthopaedic Surgical Management of Cerebral Palsy encompassing management of hip, spine and lower limb. To work as an autonomous clinician using advanced specialist skills, knowledge and experience to collaborate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment interventions for children and young people within this discipline.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Practice

1. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of work including the management of patients within your care.

2. To work as an autonomous and effective member of the Orthopaedic Cerebral Palsy and Spinal multi-disciplinary teams, working within clinic, gait laboratory and ward settings, supporting community teams in providing an efficient, up-to-date, evidence based physiotherapy service.

3. To be directly responsible for the day to day orthopaedic management of patients with cerebral palsy in collaboration with Alder Hey Orthopaedic Consultants.

Person Specification Education and Training

• oBSc or diploma in physiotherapy.
• Member of or contribute towards relevant specialist interest groups eg CMAS, BSSCP, BSS

Experience

• oManaging the care of children with neurodisability
• participation in research

Knowledge

• oAbility to demonstrate highly specialist assessment and management skills within the specialist field of orthopaedics and neurodisability

Skills

• oEvidence of excellent communication skills both written and verbal, enabling the post holder to communicate with professionals, carers and children and those who have communication difficulties.
• oCompletion of a post graduate leadership course
