As the Personal Lines Partnerships Portfolio Lead, you will play a significant role in achieving our ambitions by managing the performance and delivery of our MGA portfolio. You will lead a successful team to deliver underwriting strategy, support external relationships, and ensure risk selection and pricing sophistication across a diverse portfolio. You will provide technical and business leadership within the Underwriting function and broader business areas, while being part of an award-winning UK Retail business.

What will you be doing?

The MGA Portfolio Technical role involves four main areas:

Leadership, Team Development & Direction Setting:

You will manage a team of portfolio managers and analysts, communicating and embedding strategies, methodologies, and behaviors across underwriting and pricing teams. You will champion personal and professional development and set high standards.

You will lead planning and forecasting to ensure portfolios contribute positively to UK Retail results and develop technical strategies with stakeholders to maximize opportunities.

Pricing, Underwriting, and Portfolio Oversight:

You will design and implement frameworks for underwriting, portfolio, and product oversight to ensure effective execution, understanding performance drivers, and continuous improvement.

Customer and Partner Interactions:

You will deliver value to stakeholders, support negotiations for new and existing business relationships, and drive profitable growth.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in portfolio management, pricing, and underwriting from Personal Lines or Commercial Markets.
  • Skills in underwriting, pricing, negotiation of delegated arrangements, with relevant market, financial, regulatory, and business awareness.
  • Strong portfolio management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building, active listening, needs analysis, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and leading teams.
  • Solution-oriented with a focus on delivery.
  • Deep knowledge of products and lines of business.
  • Strong analytical skills for insights and decision-making.
  • Understanding of financial dynamics of portfolios, including expense allocation and return on capital.
