Atomic is delighted to be partnering with a Top 100 accountancy firm seeking a Payroll Manager to join its Wimbledon office.
The firm specialises in UK taxation, supporting clients in navigating the complexities of the UK tax system while providing trusted advice and maintaining the highest standards of integrity to achieve the best possible tax outcomes.
As Payroll Manager, you will oversee and develop a portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring all payrolls are processed accurately, securely and on time, in line with relevant legislation, client requirements and the firm's quality standards. You will also play a key leadership role, planning and allocating workloads across the payroll team, reviewing payroll outputs, supporting the development of team members, and acting as the main day-to-day point of contact for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- To act as the principal point of contact for an assigned portfolio of payroll clients.
- To manage the end-to-end delivery payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely processing in line with agreed timetables, ensuring work is completed on budget, in accordance with statutory requirement and in accordance with clients expectations.
- To oversee the administration of workplace pension schemes.
- To manage payroll year-end processes
- To deal with payroll queries from clients and employees promptly, clearly and professionally.
- To liaise with HMRC, pension providers, and other third parties as required on behalf of clients.
- To prepare engagement letters ensuring the scope of payroll services is appropriately documented for new and existing clients.
- To monitor work in progress, recoverability and billing information, and prepare draft fee schedules or final billing for review by the Client Director or Partner.
- To manage junior members of the team as required by each assignment
- To monitor work allocated to juniors and provide them with quality feedback in order to develop their skills and to correct performance
- To maintain an expert understanding of current UK payroll legislation, PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, workplace pensions, employment tax matters and payroll best practice.by attending CPD courses and undertaking relevant research in order to maintain the highest possible standards
- Employees as individuals of the Firm have a statutory duty to co-operate together to promote health and safety best practice.
Key Requirements
- A relevant payroll qualification, such as CIPP membership or qualification, is desirable
- Significant practical experience in managing and processing payrolls, ideally within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau is essential.
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for activities but escalate matters when required
- Has an appetite for progression and development.
- Has strong communication skills with both colleagues and clients.
- Is able to focus on solutions rather than problems
- Ability to manage multiple projects, working effectively as part of a team to drive projects and deliverables
