Job Description

Anderson Knight is delighted to be working in partnership with a highly respected and values-driven organisation to recruit aPayroll Leadon a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join a dynamic and evolving business at a pivotal time of growth and transformation.

This confidential client is a well-established organisation known for delivering impactful work across the UK. The successful candidate will lead the payroll function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement, while also supporting the development of a high-performing team.

The role offers hybrid working of 2 days in the office and a competitive salary of £44-46,000 per annum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end operation of the payroll function, ensuring all payroll deadlines and legislative requirements are consistently met.
  • Motivate, develop, and manage a high-performing payroll team, including recruitment, induction, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure robust governance and audit controls, with processes regularly reviewed and aligned to best practice.
  • Work closely with the Finance Lead, Head of Finance, and Director of Finance to model pay scenarios and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Provide expert pay advice to staff, covering tax, national insurance, pensions, and other deductions.
  • Manage monthly payroll reporting, tax year-end processes, and statutory returns such as P11Ds and PSA submissions.
  • Administer pension schemes and liaise with providers, ensuring SLAs are met and staff are kept informed of any changes.
  • Ensure full reconciliation between the payroll and finance systems and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Produce regular data analysis and reporting across all payroll activities.

Team Leadership:

  • Coach and mentor payroll staff to achieve team and organisational goals.
  • Conduct appraisals, performance reviews, and manage absences to maintain service levels.
  • Promote a positive and supportive working culture aligned with organisational values.

About You:

  • Significant experience in payroll management, including leading teams and overseeing complex payrolls.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, pension schemes, and financial reconciliation processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Confident in using payroll systems and technology, with a keen eye for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally throughout the UK as required.

Location:

Hybrid working - Office base in Glasgow with flexibility for remote work and UK-wide travel as needed.
