Pastoral Support Officer - Secondary School. Location: Milton Keynes. Start Date: September 2026. Contract: Full-Time Permanent. Salary: Competitive (based on experience).
A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Milton Keynes is seeking a compassionate and motivated Pastoral Support Officer to join its dedicated pastoral team on a permanent basis from September 2026. This role provides guidance, encouragement, and practical support to students inside and outside the classroom, with a focus on promoting positive behaviour, supporting emotional wellbeing, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
Responsibilities- Provide pastoral support to individual students and small groups to improve engagement, attendance, and wellbeing.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students who require additional emotional, behavioural, or pastoral support.
- Support students to develop resilience, confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Work alongside teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and encourage successful participation in lessons.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and student progress; implement intervention strategies where appropriate.
- Liaise with parents, carers, external agencies, and school staff to ensure students receive appropriate support.
- Support students during unstructured times, helping to maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive school environment.
- Contribute to the school's wider pastoral and safeguarding provision while promoting student wellbeing at every opportunity.
- Experience working with young people in education, youth work, mentoring, pastoral care, social care, or a similar setting.
- Ability to build positive relationships quickly and communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach when supporting students facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
- Ability to promote positive behaviour using restorative and supportive approaches.
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage a varied workload.
- Passionate about improving outcomes and removing barriers to learning for every student.
