About the RoleWe are seeking a reliable and skilled Hoofcare Technician to provide professional hoof trimming and preventative hoofcare services for dairy and beef cattle across County Tipperary. The successful contractor will work independently while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, professionalism, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine hoof trimming using safe and effective techniques.
- Assess hoof health and identify common conditions such as lameness, ulcers, white line disease, and digital dermatitis.
- Apply appropriate hoof treatments and blocks where required and within competence.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and treatments administered.
- Advise farmers on hoof health management and preventative care.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working order.
- Follow all health and safety procedures when working with livestock.
- Maintain professional relationships with clients and represent the business positively.
- Experience in cattle hoof trimming and hoof health management.
- Competent in the safe handling of cattle.
- Excellent attention to detail and animal welfare standards.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and manage appointments efficiently.
- Own transport suitable for travelling to farms.
- Formal training or certification in bovine hoofcare.
- Experience working with dairy and beef herds.
- Knowledge of modern hoof health protocols and lameness prevention.
- Current Manual Handling and Occupational First Aid certification.
As this is a self employed contract position, applicants should:
- Be registered as self employed in Ireland.
- Hold appropriate public liability insurance.
- Supply and maintain their own hoof trimming tools and personal protective equipment.
- Be responsible for their own tax affairs and statutory obligations.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Calm and confident around livestock.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to high quality workmanship.
- Flexible and willing to travel throughout the region.
