Job Description

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a motivated and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to support the delivery of high-quality ophthalmic services within the directorate. This post has been developed to provide additional capacity, enhance service resilience and support the existing team in maintaining safe and effective patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Cataract clinics and theatre lists
  • Subspecialty clinics (glaucoma and/or medical retina)
  • Trauma cover
  • Review of emergency inpatients at West Middlesex
  • Core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
  • Flexible Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions - injections, clinics, theatre lists and validation work
Qualifications and Training
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence confirmed by PMET/GMC as required)
  • FRCOphth or equivalent
  • Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
Clinical Experience
  • Broad-based training with fellowship level sub specialty training
  • Experience running general, medical retina, cataract and glaucoma clinics
  • Experience in cataract and anterior segment surgery
  • Experience managing patients in burns units
  • Evidence of teaching to meet the requirements of junior doctors and nurses
  • Active participation in continuing medical education (CPD)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid understanding of the Clinical Governance agenda
  • Evidence of effective audit leading to change
  • Demonstrated contribution to Clinical Governance
Research
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
  • Experience of implementing evidence based changes in practice
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • MD/PhD or working towards one
  • Research in digital technologies and management of patients in burns units
Working Conditions

Employment is subject to a six month probation period. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
