Job Description
Oncology Registrar

Job type: Fixed Term / Full-time

Responsibilities
  • Work under the supervision of Oncology Consultants to deliver high-quality oncology services and support clinical decision-making
  • Manage the admission of oncology patients, either supervising junior doctors or acting as the primary admitting clinician
  • Ensure effective clinical handover between shifts to maintain continuity of care and timely decision-making
  • Conduct daily ward rounds, document clinical findings, and develop clear 24-hour patient management plans in consultation with the Consultant
  • Monitor patient progress, order and interpret investigations, and promptly escalate any concerns to the Consultant
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in line with professional standards
  • Coordinate discharge planning with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safe and well organised patient discharges
  • Participate in on call and weekend rosters, including providing support to the oncology day unit for urgent reviews and complications
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case presentations, teaching activities, and continuous medical education
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, research, audits, and ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety, and hospital policies
Requirements
  • Current full registration with the Irish Medical Council (essential).
  • Membership of a relevant medical college (desirable).
  • Minimum of one year's experience at Registrar level in an acute hospital setting.
  • Current BCLS certification (essential); ACLS certification (desirable).
  • Demonstrated interest in Oncology Medicine and patient care within this specialty.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
