Job Description

Offshore Geotechnical Engineer
Kingston
12 Months (Renewable)

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to support the planning, execution, and interpretation of offshore geotechnical investigations. This role will contribute to the design and installation of marine infrastructure, including foundations for wind turbines, oil and gas facilities, subsea pipelines, and seabed-mounted systems. Responsibilities span data analysis, geotechnical interpretation, and design recommendations in accordance with international standards and specific project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop scopes of work for offshore geotechnical site investigations.
  • Identify and select suitable sampling and in-situ testing methods (e.g., CPT, boreholes, vane shear).
  • Analyse laboratory test results, including triaxial, consolidation, and cyclic tests.
  • Establish geotechnical design parameters (e.g., shear strength, stiffness, bearing capacity).
  • Prepare Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
  • Provide engineering input for pile, suction caisson, and shallow foundation design.
  • Perform axial and lateral pile capacity assessments using established methodologies (API, DNV, ISO).
  • Conduct pile installation analysis, including driveability, refusal, and set-up evaluations.
  • Support FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and detailed design stages.
  • Participate in risk workshops (e.g., HAZID/HAZOP) addressing geotechnical uncertainties.
  • Review technical documentation and third-party deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
  • Stay current with industry codes, standards, and regulatory updates.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility in all project activities.
  • Collaborate with structural, civil, and marine disciplines for integrated design solutions.
  • Provide geotechnical expertise during offshore installation and construction operations.
  • Present findings to stakeholders, including clients, certifying agencies, and regulators.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in offshore geotechnical engineering and foundation design.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of offshore investigation techniques, CPT analysis, and soil-structure interaction.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical and structural analysis tools (e.g., PLAXIS, ABAQUS, GRLWEAP, SPLICE, APILE, LPILE, SETTLE3D) is advantageous.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and offshore environments.
