Job Description
Occupational Therapist - Children's Services A local authority in Walasall is looking to recruit an experienced Occupational Therapist to join their Children's Services team. The service focuses on supporting children and young people with additional needs to maximise their independence, development, and participation in daily activities at home, school, and in the community. Occupational Therapists work closely with families, education settings, and health and social care professionals to deliver person-centred, strengths-based interventions.Main Duties:
- Undertake holistic Occupational Therapy assessments for children and young people with additional needs
- Strong understanding of complex equipment and both minor and major adaptations (for example, Disabled Facilities Grants - DFG) and implement minor adaptations - sound clinical reasoning is essential.
- Assess functional abilities relating to daily living skills, play, and participation at home and in educational settings
- Recommend and coordinate specialist equipment, adaptations, and assistive technology to support independence
- Carry out moving and handling assessments and provide practical advice to families, carers, and schools
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, education staff, and multidisciplinary professionals
- Manage an allocated caseload, prioritising tasks in line with service and statutory responsibilities
- Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessments and reviews where required
- Provide advice, guidance, and training to families, carers, and education staff
- Support service development and promote best practice within children's occupational therapy services
- Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Previous experience working with children and young people, ideally within community, education, or social care settings
- Experience completing functional assessments and recommending equipment or adaptations
- Knowledge of child development and supporting children with additional needs
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Enhanced DBS/CRB (we can assist)
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle desirable
