Job Description
Occupational Safety Advisor
Location: Dounreay, Scotland (Hybrid, 3 days onsite/2 days home)
Contract Length: 9 months (Maternity Cover)
Start Date: January 2026 (ASAP)
Rate: £550-£575 per day (Umbrella)
Hours: 40 hours per week

The Occupational Safety Advisor will play a critical role in supporting project teams at the Dounreay site by providing proactive, practical, and high-quality safety advice.

You'll help ensure that everyone goes home safe and well each day, while supporting the successful delivery of works in a complex construction environment.

This is a hands-on, highly technical role requiring strong stakeholder engagement, sound judgement, and a people-centred approach to safety leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive safety advice and support to site and project teams to ensure effective implementation of the Safety Management System.
Monitor compliance with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) and work closely with contractor partners to deliver an incident-free project.
Develop, review, and assure safety documentation for Client, Principal Designer, and Contractor roles to a high standard and within required timescales.
Participate in and lead risk assessments, safety inspections, incident investigations, performance analysis, and safety improvement campaigns.
Promote and embed a strong, positive safety culture across the project, consistently championing the principle: if it's not safe, we don't do it.
About You
Proven experience delivering safety support on large, complex construction or infrastructure projects.
Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, particularly CDM Regulations 2015.
A pragmatic, flexible, and people-focused approach with the confidence to challenge and influence at all levels.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Graduate qualification in Occupational Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma) or equivalent demonstrable experience; IOSH membership (or equivalent) preferred.
Clear, confident communicator with strong analytical skills and a structured approach to identifying risk and driving solutions.
Full UK Driving Licence required.
Working Pattern & Travel
Hybrid working model: 3 days onsite at Dounreay, 2 days remote.
No additional travel required beyond the agreed hybrid pattern.
