Job Description
Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Uro-gynaecology Senior Clinical Fellow

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is looking to recruit a Uro-gynaecology clinical fellow to commence as soon as possible. Applicants will have at least 3 years' experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have MRCOG part 1 or equivalent. The post will be for six months initially with the possibility of extension for the appropriate appointee.

Croydon University Hospital is a large DGH serving a diverse population and the successful candidate will gain a wealth of NHS experience in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Candidates will also be able to pursue specific skills depending on their level of competence and experience.

There are 18 full time Consultants and other specialist colleagues working less than full time. The middle and junior grade is staffed by a variety of doctors including Associate Specialist, Specialist Registrars/StR3+, General Practice Vocational Scheme (GPVTS) trainees and foundation doctors.

Main duties of the job
  • Taking part in regular Uro gynaecology Clinics with multidisciplinary team
  • Coordinate and manage acute gynaecology pathway, including 'hot clinic'
  • Perform and supervise surgical management of gynaecology emergencies
  • Attend main theatre and day surgery and perform procedures under consultant supervision
  • Manage the monthly MDT meetings
  • Engage in research activities, either existing or candidates own research
  • Supervise and provide day to day care of junior doctors working in Gynaecology

Job responsibilities

On Call Duties

  • Work on the middle grade rota, including nights and weekends on call - regular weekend on call and approximately three nights monthly.
  • Emergency Cover: accept occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the Duty Consultant, in conjunction with senior and junior colleagues.
  • Additional duties are exceptional and should not be required for prolonged periods.
Person Specification
  • GMC registered
  • Relevant NHS and overseas experience
  • Relevant clinical knowledge
  • MBBS or equivalent, MRCOG
  • Relevant ATSM (experience in obstetric ultrasound)
  • Relevant training for the post
Skills and experience
  • Previous experience in O & G
  • More than 4 years as registrar
  • Training relevant to post
