We are looking to recruit a permanent, part time (32 hours per week) Nursery Nurse to join the team at Tir Na Nog.

Purpose of the Job

The Nursery Nurse will be working as part of a key worker team for the daily needs of children between the ages of birth to five years and will provide support to other personnel within the setting.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children placed in the day care centre.
  • Support other personnel within the day care centre.
  • Implement the daily routine appropriate to the assigned room.
  • Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff.
  • Support all staff and engage in good teamwork.
  • Work with parents/carers of special needs children to provide full integration in the setting.
  • Maintain proper records of achievement for key children for parents/carers.
  • Liaise and support parents/carers and other family members.
  • Participate in meetings, training, fundraising activities, etc.
  • Be flexible within the working practices of the setting.
  • Assist where needed, including undertaking certain domestic tasks.
  • Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
  • Record accidents in the accident book and ensure that the manager initials the report before the parent receives it.
  • Assess how best to utilise your help within the setting.
  • Ensure children are collected by someone known to the setting.
  • Respect confidentiality of information received.
  • Develop your role within the team, especially with regard to the key worker position.
  • Prepare and complete activities to suit the child's stage of development.
  • Ensure mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
  • Wash and change children as required.
  • Provide comfort and warmth to ill children.
  • Maintain a high quality environment that meets the needs of children from differing cultures, religious backgrounds, and varying stages of development.
  • Uphold the setting's standards at all times.
  • Actively promote and support safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace.
Qualifications and Training
  • Level 2 in childcare qualification and willingness to work towards level 3.
  • Safeguarding certificate.
  • First aid certificate.
  • Food hygiene certificate.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Previous experience caring for or working with children aged birth to five years in a voluntary or paid capacity.
  • Knowledge of national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.
  • Awareness of the importance of health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace.
  • Understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Good communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers.
  • Patience and empathy.
  • Positive approach to inclusive practice.
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Ability to work in small teams.

  • Commitment to providing high quality childcare.
  • Willingness to undertake additional duties as required by the senior nursery nurse/manager.
  • Proficiency in Welsh is essential for this post (communication with staff, students, and callers in Welsh).
