Senior Practitioner - Early Years

Reed is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established early years setting for a Senior Practitioner to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to take a leadership role within a supportive and nurturing environment.

About the Role

As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key role in the daily running of your designated room, working alongside the Room Leader to ensure outstanding care, safety, and learning experiences for children. You will support and guide a team of practitioners, helping to create a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment aligned with EYFS and Ofsted requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Support

  • Lead, motivate, and support the room team to deliver high-quality care
  • Organise daily routines, staff deployment, and breaks to maintain ratios
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members
  • Support staff inductions, supervisions, and appraisals
  • Promote strong teamwork and effective communication

Children's Care & Development

  • Deliver high-quality care in line with the EYFS framework
  • Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities
  • Oversee observations, assessments, and learning journals
  • Support inclusive practice, including children with SEND
  • Build secure, positive relationships to support wellbeing and independence

Safeguarding & Health & Safety

  • Take responsibility for safeguarding within the room
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene procedures
  • Maintain a safe and organised learning environment
  • Record and report accidents and incidents accurately

Parent & Carer Partnerships

  • Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers
  • Provide regular updates on children's progress and wellbeing
  • Support transitions, settling-in sessions, and parent meetings
  • Deliver excellent customer service at all times

Administration & Compliance

  • Support planning, documentation, and staff rota organisation
  • Contribute to Ofsted readiness and self-evaluation
  • Maintain accurate records, registers, and daily logs
  • Adhere to all policies and statutory requirements

About You

Essential:

  • Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience within an early years setting
  • Strong knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding, and Ofsted standards

Desirable:

  • Experience in a senior or key person role
  • Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, and Food Hygiene certifications
