Job Description

Due to continued success, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated NPI Engineer to join the NPI Engineering team.

05th June, 2025

Here at Sepura, the NPI Engineer is involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages, through to production and support.

As NPI Engineer, you will have a strong background in DFMA, transferring products from development to key production processes such as PCBA, Final Assembly and final pack-out. Experience working with Contract Manufacturers to introduce new products & processes, is a key requirement.

Role:

  • Owning the mechanical, electronic and support aspects of introducing new product developments into the supply chain.
  • Working on new product development projects ensuring that the supply chain and sub-contract manufacturers are prepared to produce in high volume and at the correct level of quality.
  • Developing & implementing new manufacturing equipment and processes and ensuring they are documented and qualified to meet yield and capacity targets.
  • Defining rules for Design for Manufacture and Assembly - confirming that the PCB & Mechanical designs are appropriate for the manufacturing techniques and cost effective.
  • Managing prototype builds (ensuring logistics of key parts are in control, build plans are in place, production lines are prepared & any issues are recorded).
  • Supporting root cause analysis of prototype build issues down to mechanical product design or assembly issues and suggesting / implementing corrective actions.
  • Providing on-going support to our production partners to address any process / design issues which arise after mass production ramp.
  • Creation and or review of supplier work instructions (ensuring that the suppliers have appropriate documentation regarding their assembly and test process, and that the documentation is acceptable).
  • Ensuring all Sepura operations teams are prepared for the introduction of the new product (e.g. Service and Repair, Customisation, Stores, etc.).

There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business. NPI Engineering activities you will be responsible for include:
  • NPI / Manufacturing / Production / Process Engineering, across a wide array of electro-mechanical products.
  • Managing end to end NPI process, from project concept though to production ramp.
  • Developing electro-mechanical production processes such as SMT & electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Applying process knowledge to root cause issues found during product assembly and test.
  • Regularly communication to both technical and non-technical personnel using verbal and written styles.

This job involves some travelling so the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and their own car. Travel expenses will be paid.

What you need to succeed:

Qualifications (essential)
  • DFM
Experience and Skills (essential)
  • NPI / Manufacturing / Production / Process Engineer with proven electro-mechanical product manufacturing experience.
  • Sound experience of end-to-end NPI process, from project concept though to production ramp.
  • Good understanding of electro-mechanical production processes such as SMT & electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Experience in data analysis of high-volume product assembly and test yields.
  • Planning and co-ordination of NPI deliverable tasks to align with wider Project schedule.
  • Good Project planning & co-ordination.
  • Experience of working with formal PLM systems (Oracle Agile)
Qualifications (desirable)
  • A good academic record including higher education (HNC / bachelor's degree) in a scientific or engineering related subject.
  • Otherwise, demonstration of significant relevant experience in a similar Engineering role.
  • Six Sigma
  • Statistical Process Control
Experience and Skills (desirable)
  • Experience of working with electronics contract manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of low-cost manufacturing techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Injection Moulding process and or aluminium casting processes.
  • Experience of working in a medium size 'high tech' company.
