Step into a hands-on role where your effort is valued, your work is seen, and your career can grow!
The Role and About YouThis is your opportunity to play a key role in keeping the railway moving by joining us as a Night Shift Train Cleaner at Bedford Depot. In this role, you will ensure trains are spotless, safe, and ready to welcome thousands of passengers each morning. Working nights from midnight until 7:00 am, Monday to Friday, you will be part of a dedicated team that transforms trains overnight. Weekend overtime shifts may also be available (20:00-04:00 or 22:00-06:00). Every shift delivers visible results, with your work making a direct impact on passenger comfort and safety.
This is a practical, hands on role where you will carry out the meticulous hand bashing process, using brushes, mops, and specialist cleaning solutions to remove dirt and graffiti, ensuring external carriages are spotless. It is a physical job where attention to detail and pride in your work matter most, leaving you with the satisfaction of knowing you have made a difference at the end of each shift.
In return, you will earn a competitive starting rate of £14.80 per hour, with enhanced pay for overtime, rest days, and Sunday nights. Wages are paid weekly, and your hourly rate will increase after 12 weeks under Agency Workers' Rights. You will be fully provided with PPE and receive comprehensive on the job training to set you up for success. This role also offers an excellent entry point into the rail industry, with opportunities to progress into train presentation roles or even move into engineering.
To succeed, you will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to maintaining high standards, with the physical capability to carry out active, hands on tasks. Experience in cleaning, industrial, or manual work is an advantage but not essential; what truly counts is your work ethic, eye for detail, and drive to do the job well.
